Self-Image

 This episode ended up being very personal. I learned that a self-image is largely formed in childhood, I learned that a self-image is likely not to change, and I learned that there is a tons of research in "the self", what we think about our self, awareness, and most of these concepts that are miles above my head. I also learned that I have work to do on my own self image and that as a parent I have a huge impact on my kids' self image. 

Today, I'm going to try to be more of a Mr. Rogers and less of a mean guy from my church.

Stories

As long as there have been humans, there have been stories. This episode began with my curiosity about how stories are used to deliver information to humans. We enjoy stories. We use stories to teach. 

But my journey took a turn when I began to consider the ways stories are told. We tell stories in art, in music, in dance, in film, in podcasts. We are a story telling people. I think we all want our story to be heard. And we enjoy hearing the stories people have to tell. 

I also read a couple of chapters from the book of Job in the Bible.

Electoral College

 The 2020 presidential election is tomorrow (11/3/2020). I knew a bit about the electoral college, but I wanted to know a bit more. In this episode I research the origins of the electoral college, why it's used instead of a popular vote, and the amount of people are represented based on each electoral vote, and by each House of Representatives representative. 

I couldn't find any information about the amount of people represented by a electoral vote, or House of Representatives rep, but I found this after I recorded.

Tribalism

In this episode I struggle with the pronunciation of 'validity'. A lot. But seriously, I'm also struggling with how divided our country feels right now. I know that we're days before an election, and this feeling is pretty normal at this point, but it feels like more. It feels like we've been very divided for a while now, and it feels like our division might take us out. 

I hope not. 

I hope we can respectfully disagree. I think that disagreement is important. We shouldn't all think the same. We should share our different points of view. But we should also respect others' points of view, and not just those points of view that fit into our tribe's narrative.

Portland

In this episode I'm curious about Portland. I'll be moving there really soon from Albuquerque, so I'm compelled to learn a little bit about the place before I get there. My wife's from there, and I've visited a hand-full of times since we've been married. But, there's so much more to learn.
